Each year more than 38 million children and teenagers participate in organized sports at school or in the community. To avoid being injured on the field, court, or track, it’s important that your young athlete sees a physician for a physical exam before they suit up. In many cases, it is required.
The objectives of a pre-participation exam (PPE) are to assess the athlete’s present fitness level, evaluate any existing injuries, and detect conditions that may predispose them to a new injury.
During the PPE, height, weight, blood pressure and heart rate will be measured. Then after collecting a thorough medical history, the physician will evaluate heart, lungs, abdomen, nose, ears, throat, posture, strength, and flexibility.
If you have a young athlete in need of a pre-participation exam, you can walk-in to AFC Urgent Care Aurora City Center any day from 8am-8pm and be seen by a board-certified ER physician, no appointment is needed.
