Treatment
What is urgent care?
AFC Urgent Care is set up to treat patients of all ages (from six months and above) who need to be seen quickly for non-life threatening illnesses. You do not need an appointment and can just walk in, 7 days a week!
We provide most services that are available at your primary care or the ER, but without the appointments, long wait times or high copays.
What does urgent care treat?
We treat an entire range of everyday illnesses and injuries, such as coughs, colds, flu, UTI (urinary tract infections), fractures & sprains, ear infections, rashes, headaches and more. We conduct STD testing.
We conduct sports physicals, X-rays, immunizations, and more advanced DOT physicals. We also have immunizations and conduct minor surgical procedures such as abscess drainage, laceration repair, and stitches.
Please refer to our homepage for a comprehensive list of what we treat.
Is urgent care the same as the Emergency Room?
AFC Urgent Care is an Emergency Room alternative for non-life threatening illness or injury or when you are unable to see your primary care physician. Our wait times are a lot lower and the insurance co-pays are a fraction of most ER copays. Most of our providers have worked in the ER for many years.
What about follow-up care? How do you handle that?
We call every patient within 48 hours of their initial visit. We also follow-up with your PCP to make sure you get the care you need. In certain circumstances, we also request that you return to us for follow-up visits.
Does this conflict with the care given by my Primary Care Physician (PCP)?
At AFC Urgent Care, we’re big fans of PCPs- these guys do a sterling job! However, they are often incredibly busy, and sometimes you just can’t wait days or weeks to see them. At AFC Urgent Care, we treat you on your schedule. And we share your records with your PCP afterward so they can continue to give you great care.
Do you have x-rays?
Yes, we do! Each of our locations has an x-ray machine on site, staffed by fully licensed and certified x-ray technologists.
Do you treat children?
Yes, we treat all ages, from 6 months and above.
Do you do physicals?
Yes- we perform physicals for work, school, and sports (including bloodwork). We also do DOT, Coast Guard, and OSHA and Immigration Physicals.
Do you handle suture removal?
Absolutely! We also remove sutures that were placed elsewhere for a flat fee of $99. You don’t need to go back to the ER just to have a few stitches taken out.
When do you suggest I get my seasonal flu shot?
We strongly suggest that anyone 6 months and older receive their seasonal flu vaccination between October and November. You can easily stop by our walk-in clinic, seven days a week, for flu shots for your entire family!
What’s the average wait time?
The average visit lasts less than one hour, including registration.
Insurance and Self Pay Pricing
Do you take my insurance?
We participate with most insurance carriers. Please refer to our full list of accepted insurances
Do I need a referral?
No, you are not required to have a referral to be seen by a provider at AFC Urgent Care.
What is my copay?
We need to see your insurance card to verify coverage and determine your exact co-pay. You can also call the Member Services number on the back of your card to ask about coverage and copayments for urgent care.
I don’t have my insurance card with me- can I still come in?
Yes, you can. You will need a Photo ID and your insurance Member ID number. You can obtain this by calling your insurance provider. For certain insurances, we may be able to look up your number.
How much will the visit cost if I have no insurance?
There is a range of costs for the office visit depending on the complexity of the medical problem. Our prices are generally affordable and very competitive to other care providers in our area. In the interest of transparency, we have compiled a list of prices for our self-pay customers. If you require clarifications or have additional questions you can always call our center at 978.922.2171
Do you have yellow fever vaccines?
We are approved by the MA Department of Public Health to dispense yellow fever vaccines, and we also have international vaccination cards onsite. Please call ahead to see if we have this vaccine in stock.
Do you do immigration physicals?
Yes, we do! However, we do request that you call ahead and book an appointment for immigration and green card medical exams. One of our staff will guide you as to what documents you should bring for your visit.
