Winters in New England can be very rough and this winter is no exception. With the extreme cold, we want to give you some tips to avoiding frostbite this winter.
Frostbite is the freezing of the skin and tissue underneath. This typically affects small exposed areas such as fingers, nose, and ears. It can range from mild to severe. Mild can easily be treated by warming the skin with warm water. Severe needs medical attention ASAP.
To prevent frostbite:
- Limit time spent in cold weather
- If you must spend a long time outside, take small breaks to warm back up.
- Wear multiple layers and a hat that covers your ears.
- Mittens provide better protection than gloves.
- Watch for early signs on frostbite.
If you find yourself with frostbite, be it mild or severe, make sure to visit AFC Braintree where we can treat you in no time. There is rarely a wait and we accept all walk-ins. Visit us at 485 Granite St in Braintree or call 781-848-2273
