January 1st marks the beginning of a new year. This year instead of making resolutions that we may have tried in the past, let’s try setting new, realistic ones that will last all of 2017. You will be in it for the long haul this time so set yourself up with determination for a happier and healthier you!
- Know your numbers – Keep your health as your top priority in 2017 and know your numbers. We’re not talking about phone numbers, but your blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, waist size, and BMI. Keeping tabs on these numbers will improve your heart health and reduce any risks for heart disease and overall well-being.
- Cut the excuses and get fit now! – Sometimes we make getting fit to be a much scarier situation than it really is. There’s no need for an expensive gym membership this year! Start easy with walking as much as 30 minutes a day or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Try this once or twice a week and you’ll soon find yourself repeating this multiple times throughout the week and it’ll become a habit.
- Feast on the right foods – This year be more conscious of what you’re eating. Cut back on the frappuccino’s and fries and load up on foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Make a goal of trying a new food once a month! Have veggies and fruits be your go-to snacks instead of chips or cookies.
- Find a Hobby – Make sometime in your busy schedule and do something for yourself that you enjoy. Take the time to do something that helps you relax. Find a book and get some reading done, taking a painting class, or go try a yoga exercise.
