Athlete’s Foot Symptoms

July 31, 2014

Tinea Pedis, most commonly known as Athlete’s Foot, is a contagious foot fungus that affects areas on your body such as feet, toenails and hands. It is caused by either coming into direct contact with someone who already has it, or if you are touching warm, moist surfaces that the fungus is growing on. It can be found most commonly in locker rooms, showers, and around swimming pool areas.

Symptoms of Athlete’s Foot include:

  • Burning and itching around your toes, and soles of your feet
  • Itching blisters on your feet
  • Dry, cracking, itching dry skin, most commonly between your toes
  • Discolored and deformed toenails

If you suffer from any of these symptoms listed above, contact your doctor for medical advice. Over the counter fungal medications can be used, or your doctor may prescribe medications for severe cases.  It is important to always wear clean socks and keep your feet dry to avoid athlete’s foot.
