What Is the Difference Between a Bacterial Infection and a Virus?
It's really pretty simple—if your illness is caused by a bacteria, it's a bacterial infection. If there's no bacteria present, it's a viral infection, often called a virus. Depending on which type of illness you have, treatment will vary. Bronchitis and sinus infections can be either a bacterial or viral infection, which is why it is important to seek medical attention. What Are Some Examples of a Virus?
The common cold and the flu are two common examples of a viral infection. These are infections that cannot be treated using an antibiotic. Since antibiotics help rid the body of bad bacteria, they are not effective when it comes to a virus. However, there are other treatment methods. Treatment for a Viral Infection- Get plenty of rest.
- Drink lots of fluids.
- Gargle with salt water.
- Sip a hot beverage.
- Take OTC medications as needed for individual symptoms.
