COVID-19 Symptoms

COVID-19 symptoms can vary from mild to severe and may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure to the virus. Common symptoms include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

If you experience any of these symptoms, it is crucial to get tested and follow the appropriate health guidelines to protect yourself and others.

Travel COVID-19 Testing

The PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test is known for its high accuracy and is often considered the gold standard in COVID-19 testing. Results are typically available within 24 to 48 hours, providing quick and reliable information. Our PCR tests are suitable for travel testing purposes, meeting the requirements of most airlines and international destinations.

Insurance and Payment Information

We accept most major insurance plans. For those without insurance, we offer competitive self-pay rates. Please see our list of accepted insurance or contact our clinic for more details on payment options and insurance coverage.

Not Sure if It's COVID-19, the Flu, or a Cold?

With the overlap in symptoms between COVID-19, the flu, and the common cold, it can be challenging to determine what is causing your illness. Symptoms like fever, cough, and fatigue are common to all three, making self-diagnosis difficult. If you are unsure whether your symptoms are due to COVID-19, the flu, or a cold, AFC Urgent Care Northshore can help. Our medical professionals will evaluate your symptoms, perform the necessary tests, and provide you with accurate results and appropriate care recommendations. Don’t leave your health to chance—visit us for a comprehensive evaluation and peace of mind.

  • Step 1 – When you enter the building, please put on your face covering. Masks are available if you need one. Remember to maintain a safe distance of six feet from others while inside.
  • Step 2 – Proceed to the reception desk and inform them of your arrival. After checking in, return to your car and wait for a text notification indicating it’s time for your appointment.
  • Step 3 – During your appointment, your AFC provider will discuss your symptoms, conduct the necessary testing, and share the results with you.
  • Step 4 – After your visit, an AFC team member will provide you with any necessary paperwork and aftercare instructions.

Health officials recommend a full office visit along with COVID-19. If COVID-19 comes back negative, there could be underlying issues. If COVID-19 comes back positive there could be fluid on lungs and low oxygen levels the patient may not be aware of. In March 2020 a NYC emergency room physician working in the middle of the pandemic in NYC was published in the New York Times: “When COVID pneumonia first strikes, patients don’t feel short of breath, even as their oxygen levels falls. And by the time they do, they have alarmingly low oxygen levels and moderate-to-severe pneumonia.”

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why does AFC provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

  • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.

  • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
