Fast, easy Tuberculosis, 'TB' testing
AFC Cheltenham provides on-site TB shots and testing. TB is a disease capable of person-to-person infection through airborne transmission, mostly attacking the lungs. It is also capable of damaging other areas as well — such as the brain, kidneys, and even the spine. We tend to think of TB as a disease of the past, but it still remains in the top 10 worldwide causes of death. If you have tuberculosis symptoms, find a TB shot near you today. Schedule your visit now or walk right in to AFC Urgent Care.
What Are the Symptoms of TB?
Did you know that it is possible to be infected and carry TB without showing symptoms or transmitting it to others? This is called a latent TB infection. However, if left untreated, it can develop into active TB disease, which is when it becomes contagious and symptoms arise.
TB symptoms include coughing, loss of appetite and weight loss, night sweats, fever, and chills.
TB Testing:
AFC Urgent Care in Cheltenham is a state-of-the-art medical center with compassionate staff and top-notch equipment. With deep expertise, you can count on AFC Urgent Care to put your mind at ease through our TB skin and blood tests.
At AFC, we have two TB testing options available. The first is a skin test, called a PPD or Mantoux test. This test requires a follow up visit 48 - 72 hours later. The specific timing will be discussed at your initial appointment. The second test is a Quantiferon, sometimes called ‘TB Gold’. This test is a blood test. Your sample will be sent out to the lab for analysis.
In some cases, after the PPD or quantiferon test, a chest x-ray is required. If this is the case, our team will contact you and bring into our clinic for an on-site, chest x-ray.
