Does AFC Urgent Care Dalton Have a Lab on Site?

August 15, 2023

We are now open and so glad to be able to help our community overcome injuries and illnesses every day! In addition to our highly knowledgeable providers and our ability to diagnose conditions during physical exams, we have a variety of diagnostic tools at our disposal to help us along the way.

One of those tools is a new state-of-the-art lab that we have directly on site. Our AFC Urgent Care Dalton team explains more below about our lab and how it helps us get to the root cause of your symptoms, so read on to learn more.

What Tests Can the Lab Run?

Quick testing is key when you don’t feel well, so having a lab right down the hall is really helpful. We have a variety of rapid tests that can detect illnesses like the flu, COVID-19, strep throat and RSV in as little as 10 minutes. We can also take urine samples and other samples to run urinalysis and cultures.

Another series of tests we run are blood tests. Blood tests can tell us a lot about your health because your blood is a vital part of your body. Any variation or unusual test result can help us narrow our focus for diagnosing you. One of these tests is called a CBC, or complete blood count. This test measures and counts the different type of blood cells in your blood.

Potential Diagnoses Following a CBC

  • Anemia
  • A variety of infections
  • Immune system disorders
  • Blood diseases

What Does It Feel Like to Have Anemia?

Anemia is a condition where your body isn’t producing the proper level of red blood cells that your blood needs. It is actually the most common blood condition in the world! It can cause you to feel dizzy, fatigued or lightheaded, or you can experience a rapid heartbeat.

The results of a CBC can point us toward anemia easily if we notice that your red blood cell count is low. Oftentimes, making a simple diet change and incorporating more iron into your food can help you feel better and reverse this condition. The next time you aren’t feeling your best, come see us for a few tests and walk out with a diagnosis and treatment plan the very same day.

Adding More Iron to Your Diet

  • Eat iron-rich foods like lean meat, fish, eggs and dried beans.
  • Consume more folic acid from dark, leafy green vegetables.
  • Increase your vitamin D intake.
  • Take an iron supplement if recommended.

Have you been feeling faint or lightheaded? Come see us for a quick CBC test at AFC Urgent Care Dalton.
