Thinking about the pandemic can elicit all kinds of feelings and bring up old memories that we may not want to relive. It was a trying time that brought a lot of strife, grief and anxiety to our community.
We are thankful that COVID-19 is no longer considered a pandemic illness, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t still out there circulating and mutating into different variants. You can still get sick from COVID-19 at any point in the year.
Our AFC Urgent Care Dalton team explains more about the current COVID-19 variants and what to do if you do get sick, so check it out below to learn more.
Can You Get Sick From COVID-19 More Than Once?
Unfortunately, yes. COVID-19 is constantly changing and evolving into different strains and variants, so you can still get sick from it even if you have already had it. This is especially true for immunocompromised people, young children and older adults. Those with weakened immune systems can get it multiple times and experience severe symptoms with each infection.
This is why quick testing is important! There are some reliable antiviral drug treatments available nowadays to help reduce symptom severity, but they work best at the onset of symptoms. Come see us for a rapid test if you begin experiencing any of the symptoms below so you can get the treatment you deserve right away.
COVID-19 Symptoms to Watch For
- Sudden fever
- Chills
- Persistent cough
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue or muscle aches
What Other Treatments Are Available for COVID-19?
The antiviral drug treatments can help reduce symptom severity and can be given in an IV or in pill form. Rest and hydration are also key factors to feeling better faster. Since COVID-19 doesn’t have a quick treatment option, you will have to just listen to your body and take it easy for a few days while you recover.
Once you do recover, it is crucial that you get vaccinated! The latest boosters will be available beginning in late September or October. The recommendation is for everyone to receive a dose of the newly reformulated vaccine, even if you have received previous doses.
