How To Recover from General Illness

June 16, 2021

It is October & it is not only the time of year for frights & candy but also its the time of the year when people get sick! Urgent Cares always spike from September to December because of Flu season & the changes in weather.  If you are feeling under the weather we want to offer you some tips so you can get yourself back on your feet & out into the world in no time!

Stay home

In today’s society & culture it is frowned upon to take sick days off from work or your active duties. However, we here at AFC Urgent Care Dedham would like to advise you to please stay home! Going through your workday acting like nothing is wrong can lead to you becoming even sicker. When you are sick your body is fighting infections & using a great deal of energy. Your body cannot handle you doing extra activities on top of all the work it’s doing inside you. You are better off calling in for that sick day, & staying in bed.

Drink fluids

If you are fevering or just feeling very sick in general one of the best things you can do on top of getting the proper amount of rest is too drink a lot of fluids. Your body is 75% water & needs to be refilled so you don’t get dehydrated. If you are sick you are loosing more than water in your body, you are also losing electrolytes which is a valuable source of energy. Some fluids that are great for drinking when you are sick are:

  • Water
  • Gatorade/Powerade
  • Soup Broth
  • Tea

Drinking these fluids will increase your chances of feeling more energetic helping your body fight off its illness.

Wash Your Sheets & Clothes

Your clothes & sheets go through a lot when you are sick & they become a home for bacteria & the very germs that your body is trying to get rid of. By washing your bed sheets & clothes you are getting rid of the very germs that you made you sick. If you are just laying around in the same germs every day your chances of getting better will take much longer. There is also the chance that you can spread infection. If someone comes in contact with you they could get sick just because your clothes aren’t clean.
