What Are Torn Ligaments?

Recovery Time For Ligament Tears

The recovery time for a torn ligament depends on the severity of the injury:

  • Mild (Partial Tear): Recovery time may take anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months with conservative treatment, including rest, ice, and physical therapy.
  • Moderate Tear: A moderate ligament tear may take 2 to 3 months for recovery with rest physical therapy, and possible bracing.
  • Severe (Complete Tear): A complete ligament tear can require 6 to 9 months to fully heal, especially if surgery is needed.
