It can be hard to deal with allergies, especially when you don’t know your allergy triggers or are confused as to whether it may be COVID-19.

Many people still have COVID on their minds and if you don’t start preparing for spring allergy season, it’ll sneak up on you. Some of the symptoms do overlap and some of you might think it’s another wave of COVID-19. AFC Urgent Care Danbury wants you to beat spring allergy season. Let’s help you get a head start below.

Spring Allergy Season Is Starting Early This Year

Because we had a warm winter, it can lead to higher pollen counts in the spring. Think about it: Cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon? Sounds familiar, right? The constantly changing temperatures can cause your body to rev up the immune system which in turn can lead to a hyper-sensitive to the new pollen. This causes increased sensitivity and more suffering once the allergens are released.

As a result, spring allergy season has begun. Welcome!

What Are The Most Common Triggers For Spring Allergies And How To Avoid Them?

Allergy triggers for may vary, but for most people, it comes down to pollen and mold, which is why allergy-sufferers and asthmatics are often warned to stay indoors as much as possible on high pollen count days.

We highly suggest getting a head start on spring cleaning and trying to remove as many triggers as possible. During the season we also suggest stocking up on over the counter allergy meds to relieve the symptoms temporarily. Here are a few tips on how to go about the process:

  • Fix water leaks and clean up water damage that can help mold and pests flourish.
  • Clean moldy surfaces and any places that mold may form, including humidifiers, swamp coolers, air conditioners, and refrigerators.
  • Use a dehumidifier to reduce excess moisture.
  • Wash your bedding in very hot water at least once a week.
  • Cover your bedding and pillows with allergen-proof covers.
  • Go for an over-the-counter antihistamine (will relieve sneezing and congestion)
  • Stock up on inhalers before the spring season begins
