COVID-19 Rapid Testing in Danbury East, CT

If you are exhibiting symptoms of the novel coronavirus or have recently been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, you can visit AFC Urgent Care’s three Danbury East locations for the rapid test. Results are available for patients the same day as testing. To make sure you have an accurate result, wait between 5-7 days after exposure for testing.

What happens during a COVID-19 rapid test?

Patients are required to wear a mask when visiting AFC Urgent Care Danbury East for COVID-19 rapid testing, lowering them only when asked for the collection of the sample. The sample is collected by taking a gentle swab of the upper nasal cavity. While patients may feel mild discomfort, the procedure is painless. After the sample is collected, it is brought to our on-site lab, where it is processed and analyzed using a machine specifically designed for the rapid test. The test is performed by mixing the sample with a solution that only targets the COVID-19 virus, ignoring any other virus present in the sample. The solution breaks apart the virus, exposing the genome and genetic material of COVID-19. The genome is then replicated in specific molecules from your sample, which can detect the presence of the active COVID-19 virus. Once the test has been processed and completed, the results will be displayed on the screen as well as printed. A member of our staff will be able to provide you with your results via a phone call or email later that day.

Why should I get the COVID-19 rapid diagnostic test?

The rapid test allows you to get results the day of your test, while standard NAAT/PCR testing takes up to three days for results. Getting your results quickly allows you to immediately begin self-isolation and contacting anyone you may have been in close contact with to inform them to get tested including coworkers and family members. If your results come back positive, you should prepare to self-isolate for at least two weeks to make sure you are both asymptomatic and no longer contagious when you are re-tested. If your test comes back negative, you should make sure you continue to follow recommended health and safety guidelines including continued social distancings of at least six feet from anyone who does not directly live with you, wearing a mask or protective face covering over your mouth and nose when leaving your home or being out in public. You should also avoid unnecessary exposure and trips where you may be in close proximity to others.

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why does AFC provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

  • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.

  • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
