If you’re familiar with lab tests and blood work, you know how routine some of them can be. There are many different reasons to get a lab test done, whether it is drug testing for work, checking levels of components in your blood, or diagnosing symptoms. As of August 2022, AFC Elizabeth now provides testing for monkeypox. Monkeypox is a new condition that has been spreading throughout the country and the world. A blood sample is taken at our urgent care center, but due to the early nature of this disease, it is sent out to a third-party lab. Results are typically available within a few days.

Types of Lab Tests Available near Hillside, NJ

Not all lab test samples can be blood. While your body is developing antibodies to combat certain diseases, the quickest way to a diagnosis may be through a different type of sample. For example, COVID-19 is tested by collecting a sample using a cotton swab in the nose. There are blood tests to see if you were previously infected with COVID, but antibody tests won’t detect an active case.

A strep throat test is conducted by using a cotton swab to collect a sample in the back of the throat. This sample is then analyzed using a rapid test or a culture if requested. Culture results will take a few days to come back.
