What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

Symptoms of COVID-19 will vary depending on the patient and the case. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, and more severe cases can require hospitalization.

Common signs of COVID include:

  • Fever or chills
  • Body aches
  • Cough
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Congestion or runny nose

There are more symptoms a patient may experience with COVID-19 that are not included on this list. Those with compromised immune systems or the elderly may experience severe symptoms of COVID.

When will I receive my results?

For rapid COVID tests, your results will be available within 15 - 45 minutes. PCR COVID-19 test results are available between 2-5 days hours after your test is completed.

The actual duration may depend on patients in queue to be tested. Your results will be posted in your patient portal to be accessed online.

For more questions or information, please call our center.

How does rapid testing work?

If the virus is present in the sample collected, the test works by using chemicals to break apart the sample and find the virus. Molecules within the test will then detect the presence of the virus and determine the patient is positive or negative.

Are PCR tests available?

AFC Elizabeth also provides PCR tests to patients. The sample collected from PCR tests is then shipped to a government-regulated PCR lab. From there, results will take between 2-5 days. The actual duration may depend on patients in queue to be tested.

How can I protect myself from COVID?

The most effective way for all patients to prevent severe symptoms and hospitalization from COVID-19 is by getting vaccinated. Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson are commonly used vaccines to protect against COVID. If you are not yet vaccinated against COVID, find a vaccination spot near you now.

A booster shot is recommended for all patients after they have been fully vaccinated for at least 6 months. Patients are able to receive a different booster shot than their original vaccination. Meaning, if you received a full Pfizer vaccination, you can receive a Moderna booster shot after 6 months.

To further protect against COVID, wear a mask while in public and keep a distance of at least 6 feet from others. Do not see other people if you are experiencing symptoms of an illness, and quarantine yourself until your symptoms are noticeably better.

Learn more ways to protect yourself from COVID-19 by visiting the CDC website.

What are the warning signs of COVID?

As mentioned previously, some COVID cases can experience severe symptoms. The following are warning signs of COVID, and patients should seek emergency care immediately:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Pain or pressure in the chest
  • Inability to stay awake
  • Confusion
  • Gray or blue-colored skin or lips
