National Wear Red Day

January 29, 2016

National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 3, 2017. This special day, February 5th, was created in order to bring awareness about the risk of heart disease and stroke in women. Each year, 1 in 3 women lose their lives by being affected by heart disease and stroke. 80% of cardiac events can be prevented with education and lifestyle changes.

Women are encouraged to wear red on this day to take a stand and raise their voice. Use this day to get informed. It is important for all women to know the red flags and know where your heart health stands.

Since the first National Wear Red day was created in 2003, there has been a remarkable amount of advances in the fight against heart disease and stroke. Here are just some of the changes that have happened:

  • More than 50% have increased their exercise.
  • 6 out of 10 have changed their diets.
  • More than 40% have checked their cholesterol levels.
  • Today, nearly 300 fewer women die from heart disease and stroke each day
  • Death in women has decreased by more than 30 percent over the past 10 years.

It’s time to put our hearts into it and Go Red For Women®
