Digital X-Ray Services

AFC Urgent Care Fairfield offers a state of the art digital x-ray facility. The advantage of having x-ray services at an urgent care center is to avoid the long wait at the emergency room and is a cost-effective solution. Our digital x-rays can give you the immediate answers you need for a speedy recovery.

FAQ:

Are x-rays only for broken bones?

No, you may need an x-ray for several reasons without even knowing it. X-rays can come to the aid of broken bones, dislocated joints, pneumonia, foreign objects (such as embedded glass and metal), and bowel obstruction.

Who is reading the x-rays?

The physician will review your x-rays while you are still on location.  In addition, the images may require a board-certified teleradiology physician to make certain that you have received the most exact diagnosis.  We will not discharge you without an unquestionable diagnosis.

What if you do have a fractured bone?

At our walk-in center, we offer splints, crutches, and casts to immobilize musculoskeletal injuries while decreasing pain and fostering the healing process. Request a copy of your images for your referral to an orthopedist.

Is radiation dangerous?

No. Our supremely trained, board-certified x-ray technologists use the number one rule of ALARA, which is “As Low As Reasonably Achievable."  They protect every patient and use minimal radiation, depending on the body part being evaluated. Always remember to inform your radiologic technologist if there is any possibility of being pregnant.

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Is it dangerous to get an X-ray?

X-rays do use small amounts of radiation, but they’re generally safe for adults and children. That being said, there are some cases where they can be damaging – to developing babies, for instance. Your AFC provider will take your circumstances into account and answer your unique questions about safety.

  • How do I know if I’ll need an X-ray?

Your local AFC team can help you answer that question when you contact them. If you’ve experienced a fall or other injury and are in pain, an X-ray could help determine the best course of treatment. They’re also used in a variety of other circumstances.

  • How long does it take to get an X-ray?

At AFC, we always strive to get you in and out as quickly as possible, and the X-ray itself should only take around 15 minutes
