Can AFC Treat My Fracture?

June 12, 2023

Injuries are unfortunately just a part of life sometimes. Even if you take good care of yourself and try to be safe whenever you are being active, accidents can happen.

While simple injuries like minor cuts, sprains or strains will eventually heal on their own, certain injuries require medical attention in order to heal properly.

If you get hurt and the pain is significant or you are worried about a possible broken bone, stop by AFC Urgent Care Farragut for an X-ray! Read on to learn more about our X-ray process.

How Do I Know I Have a Fracture?

Your bones have the incredibly important job of providing your body with structure and protection. In order to do these jobs, they have to be strong! Your bones are build to withstand everyday impacts and actually are a little flexible in order to help absorb more forceful impacts or falls.

However, we all know that certain accidents or particularly intense falls can be too much for your bones and they can break as a result. Broken bones are often obvious to the naked eye but can sometimes be a bit harder to identify. If your injury site is painful to the touch or during movement or is swollen, come see us so we can help determine what happened.

4 Bones That Are Common Fracture Locations

  • Wrists
  • Ankles
  • Hips
  • Clavicle (collarbone)

How Does AFC Diagnose a Fracture?

Our center has a digital X-ray machine that is available for use for all of our patients. Once we perform our visual exam and ask you questions about the accident or fall, we can take a digital X-ray image to determine the extent of your injury. Digital X-rays are similar to traditional X-rays, except that the images they produce are uploaded onto a computer versus developed on film.

Another cool thing about digital X-rays is that we are able to manipulate the pictures that are uploaded without losing quality or pixilation. We can zoom in on the injury site to get an even better look at your bone. Since fractures can be obvious or can be really small, this is a huge benefit for us! If we do see a fracture line, we can discuss treatment options like a cast, sling and pain medication.

Digital X-ray Benefits

  • Reduced radiation exposure
  • Clearer images
  • Fast turnaround
  • Reduced environmental impact

Our X-ray technology can help you feel better faster. Come see us at AFC Urgent Care Farragut for an X-ray today.
