  • When Should I Get Tested for COVID-19?

Knowing when to get tested for COVID-19 is crucial for your health and the safety of those around you. Here are key times to consider getting tested:

    • If You Have Symptoms: Get tested if you develop symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, fatigue, body aches, loss of taste or smell, or gastrointestinal issues. Early testing helps you get the care you need and prevents spreading the virus to others.
    • If You've Been Exposed: Get tested if you've been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, even if you don't have symptoms. Close contact means being within six feet of an infected person for 15 minutes or more over 24 hours.
    • High-Risk Situations: Consider getting tested if you've been in high-risk situations like large gatherings, traveling, or working where social distancing is tough. Testing ensures you're not unknowingly spreading the virus.
    • For Work or School: Some jobs and schools require regular testing. Follow their guidelines on when and how often to get tested.
    • For Travel: Many travel destinations require a negative COVID-19 test result. Check your travel requirements and get tested before your trip.

    COVID-19 Treatment

At AFC Urgent Care Fort Collins-Timberline, we provide comprehensive COVID-19 treatment to help you recover swiftly and safely. Our medical team is equipped to manage a range of symptoms and conditions associated with COVID-19, offering both supportive care and advanced treatment options.

For mild to moderate cases, supportive care focuses on alleviating symptoms and may include rest, hydration, and over-the-counter medications. Our medical team will provide personalized advice to help you manage your symptoms effectively at home.

    Antiviral Medications

We offer antiviral medications, including Molnupiravir and Paxlovid, for treating COVID-19:

    • Molnupiravir is for adults with a high risk of severe COVID-19. It's taken as four capsules every 12 hours for five days and should be started within five days of symptom onset.
    • Paxlovid is available for adults and children 12 years and older (weighing at least 88 pounds) who are at high risk. It's taken as three tablets twice daily for five days and should also be started within five days of symptom onset.

Both medications are available by prescription only and are most effective when started early after diagnosis.

    Monitoring and Follow-Up

Our medical team will monitor your progress and provide follow-up care as needed to ensure a full recovery. If your symptoms worsen or you experience severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing, persistent chest pain, confusion, or bluish lips or face, seek immediate medical attention.

    Post-COVID Care

If you experience lingering symptoms after recovering from COVID-19, we offer specialized care to address and manage post-COVID conditions, ensuring you receive the necessary support for a complete recovery.

Health officials recommend a full office visit along with COVID-19. If COVID-19 comes back negative, there could be underlying issues. If COVID-19 comes back positive there could be fluid on lungs and low oxygen levels the patient may not be aware of. In March 2020 a NYC emergency room physician working in the middle of the pandemic in NYC was published in the New York Times: “When COVID pneumonia first strikes, patients don’t feel short of breath, even as their oxygen levels falls. And by the time they do, they have alarmingly low oxygen levels and moderate-to-severe pneumonia.”
