What Are the 4 Stages of Pneumonia?
Did you know? There are four stages of pneumonia, which are consolidation, red hepatization, grey hepatization and resolution. Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs, and it can impact either one or both of the lungs. It can be either a viral or bacterial infection, though it is more commonly bacterial. This means it can often be effectively treated with an antibiotic. Early Signs of Pneumonia- Cough
- Fever
- Shortness of breath
- Rapid, shallow breathing
- Sharp or stabbing chest pain
- Loss of appetite

How Is Pneumonia Diagnosed?
When you come to an urgent care center for an evaluation, a chest X-ray will be taken to see if there is any inflammation in your lungs. In addition, a blood test will be used to show if your blood count shows that your immune system is actively fighting an infection. Bloodwork will also help your doctor determine whether your infection is viral or bacterial, and your treatment plan will be based on that information. Treatment for Pneumonia- Take an antibiotic as directed, if one is prescribed.
