What Should You Eat When You Have the Flu?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, up to 20% of Americans are diagnosed with the flu each year.

How Can You Tell If It Is a Cold or the Flu?

Some of the symptoms of the cold and flu are very similar. However, the cold and flu are caused by two different viruses. Therefore, one cannot lead to another.

The symptoms of a cold virus seem to more mild compared to that of the flu virus. But you can take steps to prevent both colds and the flu.

  • Get your flu shot before the flu season begins.
  • Eat enough fruits and vegetables.
  • Work out regularly.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Don’t touch your face.
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Stay away from people who are sick.

How Can You Get Rid of the Flu?

If you do happen to get the flu this season, drinking lots of fluids and getting plenty of rest the key to recovering from the flu as soon as possible.

However, there are some foods you can eat to also help you find relief and boost your immune system to help get over the flu sooner rather than later.

  • Vegetable juice
  • Chicken soup
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Hot tea
  • Banana
  • Toast
