What Are the Symptoms of Hemorrhoids?

There are three different types of hemorrhoids, each with varying symptoms and causes:

  • Internal hemorrhoids: these are hemorrhoids that form inside of the anus that go generally undetected. However, if they become irritated, you may notice blood in your stool or on the toilet paper during bowel movements. It can become painful if it begins to protrude outside of the anus.
  • External hemorrhoids: external ones form under the skin, outside of the anus and are very noticeable. External hemorrhoids generally cause itching and irritation, pain (especially when sitting), swelling, and bleeding.
  • Thrombosed hemorrhoids: thrombosed hemorrhoids are external hemorrhoids with a blood clot inside of them. The clotting will generally cause severe pain, swelling, and it becomes a hard lump.

With state-of-the-art centers and a professional medical team, AFC provides on-site X-rays, labs, procedures, and more!

  • What's the difference between AFC Urgent Care and emergency room services?

Urgent care is for medical conditions that require prompt attention but do not pose an immediate threat to your health or life. Here is a simple rule of thumb: if your medical issues(s) are life threatening, call 911, or go directly to a hospital emergency room. If not, an urgent care center such as AFC is an excellent alternative.
