COVID-19 Antibody Testing

AFC Urgent Care Louisville & Longmont now offering COVID-19 antibody testing, known as SARS-CoV-2 AB. The test can detect past infection with coronavirus, with results available within 3-5 days.

Who can be tested?

Asymptomatic patients over the age of 10 without exhibiting a fever or other symptoms of COVID-19 for at least fourteen days prior are eligible for antibody testing.

Differences Between COVID-19 Antibody Test & COVID-19 Molecular Testing

After an infection, your body will produce antibodies, which are detectable on a blood test. However, an antibody test will not be able to detect a live infection. A molecular test, performed using a nasal swab, will be able to detect the active COVID-19 virus and can be used for diagnostic purposes.

What should I know about my results?

Regardless of the results of your antibody test, it is critical to continue following state and local guidelines regarding health and safety, including social distancing and wearing protective face coverings when out in public.

A positive antibody test indicates that you have been exposed to coronavirus. Research is still being conducted as to whether that indicates an immune protection against COVID-19; however, no formal conclusion has been made by the CDC or WHO.

A negative result from an antibody test indicates that you have not been exposed to COVID-19 enough to build an immune response to it. However, you may have also been exposed to the virus within the previous 10 days, without your body having time to develop antibodies against it.

For more information about antibody testing, including the current decisions on how information and data from antibody testing is being interpreted or the level of protection antibodies provide you against further infection of COVID-19, visit the CDC website.

This test is not currently approved by the FDA, but the FDA has approved it for Emergency Use Authorization at this time.

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why does AFC provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

  • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.

  • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
