Frequently Asked Questions About Telemedicine

May 19, 2020

In these uncertain times, AFC Urgent Care Louisville understands that some patients may be unable to leave their homes even for essential medical care. In order to make sure our patients can get the diagnosis and care they need, AFC Urgent Care Louisville is offering telemedicine visits seven days a week.

What is telemedicine and how can I have a virtual visit?

Telemedicine is a remote visit with a physician over a secure video call. Because of advances in medicine and technology, many of the visits you would typically go to an urgent care center for can be addressed over telemedicine, reducing the amount of time you will need to spend in public places as well as limiting the possibility of exposure to COVID-19. Telemedicine visits only require an internet connection and a device with video capabilities: AFC Urgent Care Louisville utilizes a secure app for video calls with our patients. Over the course of a telemedicine visit, we will be able to consult over your symptoms and provide a diagnosis as well as treatment options which can be done at home through rest or prescription medication.

How telemedicine can be used for you

Many conditions you would visit urgent care for can be assessed and treated over telemedicine. The following symptoms can be treated over a simple telemedicine call:

  • Seasonal allergy symptoms and reactions (mild to moderate)
  • Asthma (mild to moderate)
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Swimmer’s ear, ear infections, ear pain
  • Sinus infections
  • Rashes and sunburn

If you have sustained an injury or are in need of physical assessment, you will need to visit our center for an in-person visit. This includes any type of physical examination or occupational health visit.

Can telemedicine be used for COVID-19 assessment?

Patients who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, can schedule a visit with one of our physicians over telemedicine in order to go over your symptoms if you feel uncomfortable coming into our center. Symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • Dry cough
  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of smell or taste

Because of the limited amount of tests available, AFC Urgent Care Louisville has strict standards that need to be met in order to be considered for testing. If you are selected, you will need to be brought into our center for curbside testing. We will be able to provide you with your results within several days.
