Holiday Travel Safety during COVID

With the holidays coming up, it’s best to have a plan ready if traveling home. There are a few things to keep in mind, such as general COVID regulations and governmental regulations. Some states have restrictions on traveling this season, and it’s better to be prepared than end up with a hefty fine for the new year. No matter your Thanksgiving or Christmas plans, remember wearing a mask and social distancing can help keep your loved ones safe.

Flying during COVID

Airports are one of the germiest places and if you are planning to get on a plane this holiday, always remember to take precautions. Click here to see if the airport on your itinerary has had active COVID cases. Keep your mask on throughout the duration of your travel. Only remove your mask from your face if instructed to do so by airport officials. Maintain a social distance of 6 feet from others in security or while waiting to board the plane. Try not to eat anything on the plane or in the airport until you have washed your hands and reached your destination. Keeping your mask on as much as possible will make a large difference. Additionally, wearing gloves and using disinfected wipes can help you from catching COVID.

Visiting Grandparents

The holidays are some family’s only chance of seeing their grandparents or other elderly family members. This year is a bit different, and it may be best to have video calls or different ways to communicate. COVID is extremely deadly to those above the age of 65. If video calls are not an option, schedule a visit in a well-ventilated area or even outside to keep the air flowing. COVID is spread through close contact with others, so avoid hugging anyone at the gathering.

Large Family Gatherings

Large gatherings of people or seeing multiple groups of people in different stops is one of the main causes of the COVID spread. Avoid large family gatherings as much as possible. It is better to have a video call with relatives than to give anyone COVID. For a gathering of any amount over 10, staying outside as much as possible and using disposable utensils can help prevent the spread. Do not hug or come into close contact with anyone, and wearing a mask will help keep you and others safe.

The only way to know if you have COVID is by getting tested. AFC Urgent Care Malden offers Diagnostic Testing that takes three to five days for results. Call today to schedule a test before you go home for the holidays.
