When should I go and see a Board-Certified Doctor at AFC Urgent Care?

When someone should visit our walk-in medical clinic depends on the age of the patient. If your child's sore throat remains after 24 hours after drinking water in the morning, consider bringing them to our urgent care center. You should immediately bring them if they have trouble swallowing or breathing. A telltale sign in infants of having trouble swallowing is unusual drooling.

As an adult, if your sore throat does not clear up after a week, you should come and see our Board-Certified Doctor to get checked out. Consider visiting our facility sooner if your sore throat's pain or difficulty swallowing becomes more severe, you experience a rash or an earache, or if you have a fever greater than 101° Fahrenheit. You should seek immediate care if you discover phlegm or blood in your salvia or find a lump in your neck.

What causes a sore throat?

Unfortunately, many things may cause a sore throat. A sore throat is often an early indicator that something is not quite right in your body. A sore throat is common with viral infections such as a cold, the flu, mono, chickenpox, or croup. Bacteria, such as strep, can cause unusually nasty sore throats. Environmental causes can also trigger a sore throat in some patients. These include seasonal allergies, irritants in the air, or just by straining your voice, such as yelling at a sporting event.  It is important to come to our urgent care center to be evaluated by our Board-Certified Doctor because there are so many different reasons for a sore throat. We have a state of the art lab onsite that can confirm or rule out possible causes so we can prescribe to you the best possible treatment.

We are open Monday through Friday from 8am to 8pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 5pm. We look forward to serving you!

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why choose AFC for Urgent Care?

With state-of-the-art centers and a professional medical team, AFC provides on-site X-rays, labs, procedures, and more!

  • What's the difference between AFC Urgent Care and emergency room services?

Urgent care is for medical conditions that require prompt attention but do not pose an immediate threat to your health or life. Here is a simple rule of thumb: if your medical issues(s) are life threatening, call 911, or go directly to a hospital emergency room. If not, an urgent care center such as AFC is an excellent alternative.
