It is the end of April & that means Spring is finally here. Spring is a wonderful time of the year that many enjoy. However, if you are a good majority of poeple you may fear Spring because of the allergies! AFC Urgent Care Methuen would like to give you some advice on how to avoid allergies at home & in the workplace. Read below to get some advice!
Tree pollen
When allergies come in spring the first thing most people think of is flowers & the pollen that they produce. However, in reality, most people are allergic to the pollen that trees produce. Trees produce far more pollen than flowers & when the wind blows in the spring it can carry the pollen from one tree all around the surrounding areas. The symptoms of tree pollen are the same as allergies from plants except for more interests. Symptoms may be:
- Sneezing
- Itchy throat
- Itchy eyes
- red eyes
- wheezing
Grass Allergies
Over time our bodies change to what we are allergic too. In the winter, the grass dies & doesn’t return for months until the spring. In this time it is possible that your body can have developed an allergy to grass. Grass allergies can be confused with pollen allergies for the simple fact that grass can be found with flowers & weeds. If you find yourself developing rashes on your legs & arms after direct contact with the grass this is usually an indication that you may have a grass allergy.
Mold Allergies
Mold can grow anywhere from your backyard to inside your house. Mold needs warm temperature & wet grounds to grow. If you find yourself having worse allergies inside your house than outside, you should start checking your house for mold. In your house, you should check by the bathtub, in the basement or in the kitchen under the sink. If exposed to mold for a prolonged period of time this can lead to serious health complications. Make sure to check for mold periodically, throughout the summer especially if your house is known to have some damp areas.
Weed allergies
Weed allergies are the most common & the easiest to treat. Like most allergies weed allergies can be treated with a medicine you can get at any local convenience store. The day when your allergies will be their all-time low will be when it rains outside. The rain pounds the pollen to the ground rather than the wind carrying it everywhere. AFC Urgent Care Methuen hopes these tips will help you get through your allergies this spring!
