Do you test for Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

At AFC Urgent Care in Narberth, Pennsylvania, we are proud to do our part in stemming the pandemic’s tide by providing safe and efficient testing for COVID-19. We offer antigen testing, antibody testing, and RT PCR testing, depending on whether you are testing for an active or past diagnosis of COVID-19. Let us know which test you would like to receive when you schedule a COVID-19 test with us!

How Do I Get Tested?

In order to get tested for COVID-19 at AFC Urgent Care in Narberth, Pennsylvania, all you need to do is schedule an appointment through our website or by calling us at (484) 270-8600. No provider’s referral is required! When you arrive for your testing appointment, you can check in at the front desk. If you require antibody testing, we will draw a small vial of blood from your arm to perform the test. On the other hand, if you need molecular testing for a COVID-19 diagnosis, a medical professional will take swabs from your nose. After the blood or swabs are taken, we will either analyze the test at our facility or send it away for more in-depth analysis.

What does it cost to get tested and/or will my insurance cover the cost?

We bill insurances for the PCR Test. Depending on what insurance you have, we may or may not collect a copay at the time of check-in. The Rapid Antigen test at our location is a self-service test for $135.00

How long before I get my test results?

The length of time it takes to receive your COVID-19 test results depends on the type of test and the testing facility’s capacity.

  • For send-out tests – the Lab has advised that the COVID-19 test results will be received within 48-72 hours (this may change without notice based on how busy the lab gets) after the swab tests are done. Our staff will call you with the test result when we receive it from the lab. With molecular or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, it usually takes a few days and up to a week to get results back.
  • Rapid COVID-19 Antigen Test results are available within the same day as early as an hour after your test.

What is the 2019 novel coronavirus?

Generally, the word coronavirus describes any virus that originates from an animal. In the case of the 2019 novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, it is a new coronavirus strain that was first discovered in Wuhan, China, in December of 2019. Coronaviruses typically cause a respiratory infection in humans. Other notable coronaviruses include SARS-CoV (severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus), which caused an epidemic in 2002 in Toronto, Canada, and MERS-CoV (Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus), which caused an outbreak in 2012 across the Middle East.

How does the virus spread?

COVID-19 spreads from person-to-person through liquid respiratory droplets released when a person coughs, sneezes, talks, or sings. When someone is in close contact with an infected individual, within approximately six feet, these liquid droplets can allow COVID-19 to enter that person’s body through their eyes, nose, or throat. COVID-19 spreads quickly when large groups of people are assembled together.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, dry cough, and fatigue. However, there is quite a broad range of symptoms associated with COVID-19, including the following:

  • Muscle aches
  • Sore throat
  • Diarrhea
  • Pink eye
  • Headache
  • Sudden loss of taste or smell
  • Skin rash or discoloration
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Loss of speech or movement

If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, we encourage you to come to get tested at AFC Urgent Care! You can find our clinic at 934 Montgomery Avenue in Narberth, Pennsylvania.

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why does AFC provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

  • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.

  • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
