Getting a skin infection is not at the top of anyone’s “to do" list. You likely must deal with itchy and painful skin that makes you feel uncomfortable for the entire day. Who wants to suffer for days with that while you wait for your primary care provider to be available? At AFC Urgent Care Narberth we have treated a variety of skin infections at our walk-in medical clinic. One of the most common infections we see is Ringworm.
When you hear ringworm, you may immediately think this infection is caused by a parasite or an actual worm. This however is incorrect. This skin condition is caused by a fungus. It can be found anywhere on the body, but is often found on the scalp, feet, nails, and groin. This fungus loves warm and moist places. Any part of your body that is sweatier than others makes it more likely to become infected and see the tell-tale round rash.
The rash caused by ringworm is instantly noticeable. However, many people confuse ringworm with other skin infections. The best way to diagnosis your exact skin condition is to see one of our board-certified provider. They’ll be able to determine if it is ringworm or not and be able to prescribe a proper treatment for it. Waiting for it to clear up will not only allow it to spread to different parts of your body, but your risk infecting others as well.
Showing the signs of possible ringworm? Visit our walk-in medical clinic today for an immediate diagnosis. No appointment is never need to see our provider.
“Do I have ringworm?" A very easy question to ask, but maybe not easy to answer if you don’t know what to look for. The most common symptoms of this skin infection include:
Ringworm is very contagious. It can easily leap from person to person simply by touch which is why immediate treatment is needed. If a child is infected with ringworm, they will often be sent home from school until they are treated for it. Animals, especially cats, can spread this fungus from person to person also. If you are infected, you should try to avoid contact with other people. You don’t want to be known as the person who infected the entire office with ringworm, do you?
If you suspect you have ringworm, you should seek out immediate medical advice. With our extended hours during the week and weekend hours, we are a very convenient and easy choice to get a proper diagnosis. We require no appointment and you can walk into our facility anytime to be seen by a provider. We strive to get you in and out as quickly as possible with an accurate diagnosis. Have questions? Call our friendly staff at (484) 270-8600 today. We accept most major insurances and half self-pay options available. We look forward to serving you!

Despite its name, ringworm is a fungal infection and can be contagious. Anti-fungal creams or medications are needed to treat it. Antibiotics are not effective.
The main advantage of choosing AFC is our short wait times – often under 30 minutes. The total length of your visit will depend on what you're being seen for, but many patients can be in and out of our clinics in around 60 minutes. High patient volume or patient acuity can make these times longer.
