Heat Stroke Symptoms & Treatments

June 13, 2014

"

Summer is quickly approaching which means temperatures will be rising and the days will become longer and hotter than usual. One thing to be careful about in the next couple of months are signs of heat stroke. Heat stroke occurs when your body’s internal temperature reaches 104?F or higher. It is typically caused by hot temperatures or strenuous exercise in hot weather. Heat stroke is more serious than heat exhaustion because it affects your brain and internal organs, which can lead to death if untreated.

Some signs you may be suffering from heat stroke include;

  • Temperature of 104?F or higher
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Severe headache
  • Dizziness/light-headed
  • Weakness/cramps
  • Shortness of breath
  • Seizure

If you or someone you know might have heat stroke, call 911 immediately. While you wait for the medical team to arrive, remove all unnecessary clothing and place ice packs all over the body and try to keep them as cool as possible.
