Newtown COVID Testing at AFC Urgent Care

Can I be tested for a COVID-19 infection at AFC Urgent Care West Chester?

Yes. Screening and testing for COVID-19 is available at AFC Urgent Care West Chester.

Do you offer PCR nasal swab testing?

  • Yes, PCR nasal swab testing, which is highly accurate in detecting COVID-19 active infections, is available at our center every day. It is often referred to as the “gold-standard".

Do you offer Rapid COVID-19 testing?

  • We offer the ABBOTT IDNOW molecular diagnostic rapid test which can detect active coronavirus infection. This test is also highly accurate and usually does not need to be repeated, as some antigen rapid tests may require. Similar to the PCR test, a nasal swab specimen is taken to detect the active virus. The tests are run at our location with results available the day the specimen is collected. Patients may be able to schedule a test without a telemed visit for a self-pay rate of $150. Be advised that most insurances do not cover the rapid test when simply for convenience and not medically necessary.

What is the process for getting tested?

  • For PCR testing –A consultation with one of our Doctors or Physicians Assistants is the first step. We offer two options: 1.) Schedule an in-person appointment. 2.) Schedule a telemedicine visit with one of our Doctors or Physician Assistants for an on-line consultation. In both situations a medical consultation is conducted prior to a PCR test. As a walk-in patient you will be swabbed after your consultation with a member of our medical team. If you schedule a telemed visit, a specific time convenient for you to come to our center will be assigned for the actual test.
  • For patients opting for the telemed consultation – Upon arrival at our center on the day of your actual COVID test, please call our front desk at (267) 364-6477 to inform us you have arrived and to receive any additional instructions.
  • Self-pay rapid testing (cost of $150) – Schedule a self-pay rapid test by registering through our separate on-line rapid test booking page.
  • Upon arrival at our center for the self-pay rapid test, please call our front desk staff at (267) 364-6477 to pay via credit card and to receive further instructions.

What are other services offered?

  • We offer Rapid RT-PCR, Molecular, Antigen and regular RT-PCR.

What if I do not have insurance?

  • We offer a self-pay option for COVID testing. Additionally, if you are uninsured you may be covered by The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. You will need to sign a document attesting you are uninsured. Please check with our staff before getting tested.

What is the turnaround time for the results?

  • PCR testing takes about 24-48 hours to get the results in majority of the cases.
  • The rapid tests results are available the same day- usually within 1 hour.

How do we get our results?

  • For PCR and antibody tests—results are available on the LabCorp patient portal or via our secure email, phone call, or can be picked-up at our center.

Can the tests be used for Surgery and Travel?

  • Yes, PCR and ABBOTT IDNOW test results are often used for employment, surgery, and travel purposes. As requirements may vary, it is best to verify the COVID testing requirements for your specific situation.

If you have symptoms of COVID-19 or are asymptomatic but have been exposed to a person with COVID-19, please call the office at (267) 364-6477 before coming to our center!

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why does AFC provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

  • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.

  • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
