Keep summer fun, Don't burn by the Sun!

With temperatures soaring this summer it is no surprise that everyone is rushing to get to the nearest beach or pool. Something about laying out in the suns rays is so appealing to a good majority of people. However, if you’re smart you will be applying sunblock! BUT what happens when your sunblock isn’t working? There are different types of sunblock & methods you can use to not let your time in the sun end in pain!

Types of Sunblock

There are two types of sunblock, Chemical & Medical. Chemical sunblock is made with different types of chemicals to absorb light & UV rays.  When we are in the sun we are exposed to two types of UV rays that come from the suns light, (UVA & UVB). Too much exposure to these types of ultraviolet rays will result in you getting sunburn. Chemical sunblock, when used correctly will narrow down your exposure to these rays over a period of time. Medical sunblock uses natural minerals to block out the suns rays.

Which Sunblock is better?

Although it has not been proven that chemical sunblock is bad for our skin, it has been proven that it is bad for the marine life in the ocean. There are reports of chemical sunscreen being the cause for damage to coral reefs across the world. Some places have put a ban on chemical sunscreens such as Hawaii. The medical sunscreen has been proven to not have as much longevity as the chemical based sunscreen but it is a lot better for the environment.

Treating a burn

Unfountunrly even if you apply your sunscreen every 15-20 mins and have the correct SPF on your sunscreen there is still a possibility you can get burned. If you get an acute burn; use a moisturizer with aloe vera in them to sooth the pain. Keeping your burned areas cooled down will also help the pain. If you have any intense burn symptoms such as

  • Blisters
  • Sun poisoning
  • Nausea
  • Headaches
  • Blurry Vision
