The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires all applicants to complete a comprehensive physical exam in order to acquire a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This physical exam ensures that each driver is healthy and physically fit enough to operate a commercial vehicle without risk of injury to themselves and others.

Physical Requirements for Commercial License

There are some common requirements that need to be met in order to pass the DOT exam. DOT physical requirements include the following and more:

• Each eye must be at least 20/40 with or without vision correction.
• Blood pressure less than or equal to 140/90.
• Ability to distinguish standard traffic signs and colors.
• No evidence of use of habit-forming drugs.
