Dr. Mark L. Wasserman, M.D., Medical Director
Dr. Wasserman has been practicing medicine for almost twenty years. Prior to joining AFC , he was the Regional Medical Director of ASAP Urgent Care, with several locations in New Haven County. Prior to the role at ASAP, he practiced medicine in Fairfield for over ten years, and owned a neuro-biofeedback business for another two years. In addition, Mark worked as a physician at a Federally Qualified Health Center in Ansonia, CT. Mark also served as Ambulatory Director for the Griffin Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program, teaching resident physicians outpatient medicine.
Mark has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. His master’s degree is in molecular virology and tumor cell biology. He went to medical school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and completed his internal medicine residency at Stamford Hospital. Dr. Wasserman is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Mark has lived in Westport with his wife and two children since 1998.
Dr. Byron Kennedy, M.D.
Dr. Kennedy has been practicing medicine for approximately seven years. He was recently named the Director of Health for the city of New Haven. He previously held a similar role for Monroe County, NY Department of Public Health. Byron has also worked in urgent care centers in California and New York during the past five years. He did his residency in preventive medicine at the California Department of Public Health. Dr. Kennedy received an M.D., PhD, and MPH from Yale University. He is certified by the American College of Preventive Medicine. Byron recently relocated to New Haven, CT from upstate New York.
Dr. Tony Bhatnagar, M.D.
Dr. Bhatnagar has been practicing Emergency Medicine for approximately 30 years. Recent full-time positions have included work at Carolina Health Specialists (Wilmington, NC), St. John’s Riverside Hospital (Yonkers, NY), and John T. Mather Memorial Hospital, (Port Jefferson, NY). In addition, Dr. Bhatnagar has been doing per diem work for AFC in Westchester and the Bronx. Dr. Bhatnagar graduated from SUNY @ Stony Brook School of Medicine. He did his residency in Emergency Medicine at Morristown Memorial Hospital (NJ); an affiliate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Physicians (FAAEM) and the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP).
Louise C. Varca, FNP
Louise C. Varca has practiced as a nurse practitioner (NP) for over 18 years and received Honors upon completion of her Master’s in Nursing Science. Her recent full-time positions include work as an NP for several leading healthcare organizations across New York and Connecticut including Nyack Hospital (Nyack, NY), White Plains Hospital (White Plains, NY), Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY), and Physician One Urgent Care (Brookfield, CT).
In addition to her NP work, Louise has also worked as an clinical adjunct professor at the Dorathea Hopfer School of Nursing Mount Vernon NY and as an emergency paramedic for the FDNY.
