Can Bronchitis Cause a Fever?- AFC Urgent Care

Finally, you’re getting back into the swing of things since school has started. Then, bam. Here comes the sore throat, cough and fever. But does that mean it is bronchitis? Our team at AFC Urgent Care Ooltewah wants to share some basics about bronchitis, including its symptoms and when to seek medical care.

Do I Have Bronchitis?

When the lining of the bronchial tube becomes inflamed, bronchitis sets in. Symptoms can linger for anywhere between two weeks and a month, depending on how severe your case is.

Bronchitis Symptoms

  • Chest pressure
  • Chronic cough
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Dry cough
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Post-nasal drip
  • Runny nose
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath

What About a Fever?

Although a fever does not usually occur with acute bronchitis, you can possible have a low-grade fever that appears from time to time. However, if your fever remains above 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, another medical condition might be to blame. Therefore, it’s important to seek medical treatment for symptoms (especially of a fever) sooner rather than later.

Bronchitis Treatment

  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Get plenty of rest.
  • Take OTC meds to relieve pain and cough.
  • If an antibiotic is prescribed, take as directed.
  • Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air.
