How Nervous Should I Be If I Get COVID-19?- AFC Urgent Care

COVID-19 rates are spiking all over the country, so it is completely normal to be a little worried if you do happen to come down with a case of the virus.

However, you’re not alone in your struggle. Our team at AFC Urgent Care Ooltewah is here to provide you with the necessary information on what to do next if you do get sick, so read on.

How Serious Is Getting COVID-19?

Let’s not sugarcoat this—it’s quite serious. Although many people with COVID-19 have had mild to moderate symptoms and were able to make a full recovery at home, the disease can cause severe medical complications and has taken the lives of one in 1,000 Americans over the past year.

This is simply too many people to fall and is a very sad fact. To help keep you safe, we’ve listed some everyday ways you can reduce your risk of contracting the virus below.

Ways to Prevent Unnecessary Risk

  • Avoid large gatherings.
  • Avoid close contact with others who aren’t in your immediate household.
  • Wear a face mask over your nose and mouth in public.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

Will I Experience Severe Symptoms?

Frankly, we can’t provide an all-encompassing answer to that question. Medical experts all across the globe are learning more and more about the virus every day, but they do know that symptoms look different in almost every case.

Some who have tested positive have experienced mild to no symptoms, while some have experienced severe symptoms that have resulted in death. Like we said earlier, though, the CDC has stated that the majority of those who contract the virus can make a full recovery at home.

Ways to Recover From COVID-19 at Home

  • Stay home when you are sick, except to get necessary medical care.
  • If you have a positive COVID-19 test, follow CDC guidelines and isolate for 10 days following the onset of symptoms.
  • If possible, use a separate room and bathroom for sick household members.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • Take OTC medications as needed to handle the symptoms of the illness.

These are certainly trying times, but remember that AFC Urgent Care Ooltewah is here for you! Don’t hesitate to make an appointment or walk in for the medical care that you need today.
