The Announcement Ends an Extensive National Search
Portland, OR May 31, 2016 — AFC Urgent Care Portland, formerly AFC Doctors Express, announced today that Dr. Charles Webb will join AFC Portland as its Chief Medical Officer (CMO) effective July 1, 2016. The addition of Dr. Webb, a former faculty member at OHSU, completed a newly designed management structure intended to guide the organization through a multi-year growth stage and establish the organization as the industry standard in Portland.
“Dr. Webb not only brings a wealth of medical knowledge and expertise, his experience and reputation in building clinical teams will be a key capability as we scale up the organization to change the landscape in urgent care, accessible primary care, and occupational health in Oregon, and beyond,” noted Guru Sankar, AFC Portland’s Managing Partner.
Dr. Webb is a family physician with subspecialty expertise in sports medicine. He is a member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine as well as the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine. Dr. Webb is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine.
He obtained his medical degree from the University of North Texas, and his sports medicine specialty training while in the Army at the Uniformed Services University. Most recently, he exercised his passion for training as the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Director at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and has served as Team Physician for Portland State University Athletics for the past 9 years. He also serves as the Team Physician for Lewis & Clark College in Portland.
In his new role, Dr. Webb will work closely with the leadership team of AFC Portland in growing and developing the clinical staff, consisting almost entirely of Physicians (M.D.s) and Certified Medical Assistants (C.M.A.s). He will also be focused on taking clinical excellence and customer service to the next level. “While AFC Portland already shares a commitment to excellent patient care, for me, it’s never been only about teaching faculty or physicians. It is also about educating patients. It’s part of AFC Portland’s values and how they intend to raise the bar on urgent care and accessible primary care in the region.”
