With as little as 29% of primary care doctors offering extended business hours, it’s no wonder why walk in medical clinics are becoming more popular. For those who have questions about urgent care, here are a few things you may be interested in learning.

Do I have to make an appointment?
No. With a walk in medical facility, you do not have to make an appointment to be seen. You may simply come in during normal business hours and be seen without a long wait time. In fact, studies show that 69% of urgent care centers have wait times of 20 minutes or less.

What type of payment does the Walk-in Clinic accept?
Walk in health clinics accept cash, check, or debit/credit cards. At the time of service, payment will be expected. After payment has been received, a statement will be given to be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What kind of costs could I expect if my problem was more complex and I paid cash for my visit?
If you have already paid cash for your visit and your problem is more complex than originally thought, fees for your office visit will usually be between $88 and $126. Your insurance can also be billed at the contracted office rates as well.

What kinds of problems would be considered higher complexity
Medical issues that are considered to be higher in complexity and require further medical attention include chest pain, undiagnosed/new headaches, abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting in children less than two-years-of-age, eye trauma, fractures, and auto accidents. In the case that your problem is something that a walk in clinic cannot help, you may be charged and referred to family care physicians in the area.

How much will the visit cost if I have no insurance?
Depending on how complex your visit is, there is a range of medical costs for your urgent care visit. The average copay for insurance at a neighborhood health clinic ranges from $35 to $55. Discounts may be offered for patients without medical insurance.

While we do appreciate our primary physicians, not all have convenient office hours. For this reason and more, walk in clinics and urgent care facilities are available to service our needs without the stress and long wait times typically seen of emergency rooms.

Know when a visit to the emergency room is needed and when to visit urgent care. It could potentially save yourself both time and money.
