A Few of our Favorite Things for Cold and Flu Season
It’s that time of year again. It seems like everyone around you has a runny nose, cough or fever. People are calling in sick to work and kids are missing quite a few days of school. It can feel like getting sick is inevitable! AFC Urgent Care Princess Anne is here to share a few of our favorite things for surviving this cold and flu season.
Flu Shot
We know that many people have a fear of needles, but the flu shot is the best way to prevent getting sick this flu season. By getting an annual flu shot, you can:
- Prevent yourself and others from getting influenza
- Reduce the severity of illness if you do get sick
- Protect the people around you
If you have yet to get your annual flu shot, visit AFC Urgent Care Princess Anne! We are happy to help you.
Soap and Water
A classic washing your hands with soap and water is one of the easiest ways to prevent the spread of germs. Hand sanitizer is a good option if you do not have soap and water available, but it does not kill 100% of the germs on your hands and is not good for washing away harmful substances. If you do use hand sanitizer, choose one that is 60% alcohol, and make sure you wash your hands as soon as soap and water become available!
Cough Drops and Throat Lozenges
Many things can cause your throat to be red and sore this time of year: the common cold, the flu, COVID-19, drier and colder winter air, post-nasal drip, allergies and mouth breathing. Cough drops or throat lozenges can help soothe your sore throat and prevent uncomfortable coughing and dryness.
Tissues with Lotion
You are probably blowing your nose a lot more these days, either because you are sick or because the cold winter air is making your nose run. The dry air also has the tendency to make your skin cracked and sensitive. If you find you are blowing your nose a lot, buy tissues with lotion in them. They will be softer and gentler on your sensitive skin.
