If you are applying for permanent residence or a green card in the United States, you will need an immigration physical. As per the requirements of the The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), all immigration physicals must be completed by a civil surgeon, or a doctor who has been certified by USCIS. AFC Urgent Care Princess Anne is proud to offer immigration physicals with our very own civil surgeon, Dr. Clarke.
An immigration physical, also known as an immigration medical examination or immigration medical screening, is a medical assessment required by the United States for individuals seeking to immigrate or obtain a visa for an extended stay. These physicals have specific requirements and can only be performed by civil surgeons, or doctors such as Dr. Clarke, who have undergone training and certification by the USCIS.
People who are planning to move to the United States for an extended period, either permanently or on a green card, may be required to undergo an immigration medical examination. The purpose of the immigration physical is to assess the health status of the applicant and to ensure that they do not have any communicable diseases or conditions that could pose a public health risk to America.
In order to provide you with accurate information, make sure to bring the most complete and up-to-date documentation to your appointment possible. Please bring with you the following:
If you don’t have your vaccination records, we can perform a blood test called a vaccine blood titer for proof of immunity.
An immigration physical will consist of a medical history review and physical examination. Dr. Clarke will order chest X-ray and blood tests, and discuss your previous vaccinations, your history of chickenpox, tuberculosis and any other existing health conditions. Dr. Clarke is also able to administer any vaccinations or blood tests you may need, including the following:
At the conclusion of your appointment, Dr. Clarke will fill out the remainder of your I-693 Form and place it in a sealed envelope. Send the unopened envelope to the USCIS per their instructions. It is important that you do not alter the envelope in any way, or the USCIS will not accept it.
Unfortunately, most insurance carriers do not cover immigration physicals. We recommend filing the necessary paperwork with your insurance provider regardless, and we can provide everything you need for this at your appointment.
Though AFC Princess Anne offers walk-ins, we recommend scheduling your physical to make sure that our civil surgeon, Dr. Clarke, is available. Call (757) 335-4755 or fill out our online form to schedule your appointment today. We look forward to serving you!
AFC offers some of the lowest wait times around, with many patients getting in to see a provider in less than 15 minutes. Your exam will probably take around a half hour.
We’ll complete your paperwork as required, but if it’s something we can help with we might be able to provide you with treatment on the spot. With in-house labs at many locations, you could be on your way without the need for a second visit.
You can stop into any AFC, any time. Check out our list of locations to find the one nearest you.
