What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is a disease caused by a virus called SARS-CoV-2. COVID-19 is highly contagious, and people closer than 6 feet from an infected person are most likely to get infected. The virus is spread by:
- Breathing when close to an infected person who is exhaling the particles of the virus.
- Small particles of the virus landing on the eyes, nose, or mouth.
- Touching eyes, nose, or mouth with hands that have the virus on them.
Am I at Risk for COVID-19?
Anyone of any age or health condition can get COVID-19, and it is highly contagious and can spread rapidly no matter where you live. Older people and those who have certain underlying medical conditions are more likely to get severely ill from COVID-19.
How Long Will I Be Sick with COVID-19?
Most people with COVID-19 have mild symptoms and get better within weeks of contracting the virus. Some people are experiencing a wide range of new, returning, or ongoing health problems more than four weeks after being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. What are the COVID-19 Symptoms?
Symptoms can show up in 2–14 days after exposure. Common symptoms include:
- Fever or chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue

- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea

Look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19:
- Trouble breathing
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
- New confusion
- Inability to wake or stay awake
