Landing a new job is a huge accomplishment. But before you start your new career, your employer will likely require you to take a pre-employment physical. These assessments are quick and painless but necessary to ensure you are in good health. Make the process easier by preparing beforehand.
What To Expect at the Physical
These physicals are typically done at a facility of the employer’s choosing or from a list of clinics that perform the assessment. Our urgent care in Raleigh can perform these tests for employers.
During the exam, a medical professional will take your vital signs, examine your abdomen and skin, and give a heart and lung assessment. Depending on your new career, you could be subject to additional testing such as hearing and vision assessments, drug and alcohol screenings, labs, and a physical test, including lifting weights and performing stretches (usually, this is for more labor-intensive jobs).
How To Prepare for the Physical
To note, you cannot alter your health in a day, so preparing for the pre-employment physical by lifting weights or running a few days beforehand will not alter your results. However, there are other ways you can ready yourself for the assessment.
Gather Identifications
Gather all the identification cards you need. A valid driver’s license is your best option, but you could bring your social security card or passport as other forms. You may also need an employment badge if the company gave you one already.
Fill Out Paperwork
If the company or clinic gave you paperwork to fill out, have this done and ready to make the process faster.
Be Familiar With Your Past Medical History
Understand your past medical history. This includes a knowledge of your immunizations, medications, medical conditions, and allergies.
Bring Assistive Devices
Lastly, if you are medically impaired, bring your assistive devices.
If you are unsure about a portion of the physical, do not hesitate to reach out to your employer or the clinic for clarification. Schedule your pre-employment screenings with AFC Urgent Care today.
