Raleigh Midtown COVID-19 Testing Options at AFC Urgent Care

COVID-19 Testing Is Available at AFC Raleigh Midtown

COVID-19 testing is vital whether you’re vaccinated or not. Many people remain vulnerable to COVID-19, and if you’re feeling sick, you could be putting those around you at risk. AFC offers COVID testing right on-site, giving you quick results to let you know whether or not you have COVID-19. We also test for Flu A/B and strep, illnesses that produce similar symptoms, so we can get you the proper treatment even if you don't have COVID-19.

AFC Raleigh Midtown COVID-19 Testing Center can perform three different COVID tests: Rapid COVID-19 Test, RT-PCR COVID-19 Test, and COVID-19 Antibody Test. You'll receive your rapid results on the spot and will get the results of the more comprehensive RT-PCR COVID-19 Test and the COVID-19 Antibody test online within a few days.

We know that if you’re feeling sick, the last thing you need is to wait for an appointment, so feel free to walk right into your local AFC to request a test. If you have COVID-19 or another illness, our providers will set you up with a treatment plan that could include medication, plenty of fluids, rest, and of course, staying home.

Who Should Be Tested for COVID-19

All patients are welcome to be tested at our AFC Raleigh Midtown COVID-19 Testing Center. With or without symptoms, the CDC, the NC Deoartment Of Health and Human Services and AFC Raleigh Midtown recommend anyone with COVID-19 symptoms be tested, regardless of vaccination status or prior infection.

Others That Should Be Tested:

  • All people who have had close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over 24 hours) with someone with confirmed COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status.
  • All people asked or referred to get tested by their healthcare provider or state, tribal, local, or territorial health department
  • Unvaccinated people who have participated in activities that put them at higher risk for COVID-19 because they cannot physically distance themselves as needed to avoid exposure, such as travel, attending large social or mass gatherings, or being in crowded or poorly-ventilated indoor settings.

Rapid COVID-19 Testing

A rapid COVID-19 test is the fastest way to check if you have recently been infected with COVID-19. We offer Rapid Antigen COVID-19 testing in-house, and the results of this test are available in about sixteen minutes.

COVID-19 PCR Testing

COVID-19 PCR testing, or “Standard COVID PCR Testing,” is the most accurate type of COVID-19 test available to patients. A standard test returns testing results to the patient in a couple of days. A COVID-19 PCR test is a highly requested option for patients that need to plan their testing needs for travel, work, or other important priorities.

COVID-19 Antibody Testing:

A COVID-19 Antibody test allows us to determine if a patient that has recently been infected by the COVID-19 virus has developed any immunity to the virus in the form of antibodies. When the immune system produces antibodies, the body now understands how to fight off previous viruses and infections. Patients that have antibodies to the COVID-19 virus are less likely to get infected or have serious symptoms.

Patients that had a previously confirmed case of the COVID-19 virus may want to get an antibody test to see if they have partial immunity to the virus. This test is sent out and takes a couple of days.

Frequently Asked Questions about COVID-19 Testing:

What is the difference between Rapid COVID-19 tests and COVID-19 PCR tests?

AFC Raleigh Midtown COVID-19 Testing Center offers both Rapid COVID-19 Testing and Standard COVID-29 PCR Testing.

What is a COVID-19 Test vs. a COVID-19 Antibody Test?

A COVID-19 test, standard or rapid, determines an active COVID-19 infection in the patient. A COVID-19 antibody test determines if a patient who previously had the virus has developed immunity to the virus. Raleigh Midtown COVID-19 Treatment at AFC Urgent Care Raleigh Midtown

APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED

AFC Urgent Care Raleigh Midtown is now offering COVID-19 treatment options for COVID positive patients at our Raleigh Midtown location only, by appointment.

We are now offering oral therapeutic treatment options- Molnupravir and Paxlovid. It is recommended that you start covid treatment as soon as possible once you test positive for the virus. Please check in online to determine your eligibility and arrange your telemedicine COVID therapy consultation. Candidates who have active infections and are at a higher risk of complications will be considered for eligibility.

Our goal is to provide you with the resources and information you need to better care for yourself and your family.

Molnupravir

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for Merck’s molnupiravir for the treatment of mild-to-moderate coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in adults with positive results of direct SARS-CoV-2 viral testing, and who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death, and for whom alternative COVID-19 treatment options authorized by the FDA are not accessible or clinically appropriate. Molnupiravir is available by prescription only and should be initiated as soon as possible after diagnosis of COVID-19 and within five days of symptom onset.

Molnupiravir is not authorized for use in patients younger than 18 years of age because molnupiravir may affect bone and cartilage growth. It is not authorized for the pre-exposure or post-exposure prevention of COVID-19 or for initiation of treatment in patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 because benefit of treatment has not been observed in people when treatment started after hospitalization due to COVID-19.

Molnupiravir is a medication that works by introducing errors into the SARS-CoV-2 virus’ genetic code, which prevents the virus from further replicating. Molnupiravir is administered as four 200 milligram capsules taken orally every 12 hours for five days, for a total of 40 capsules. Molnupiravir is not authorized for use for longer than five consecutive days. (FDA, Dec 2022).

Paxlovid

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for Pfizer’s Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir tablets and ritonavir tablets, co-packaged for oral use) for the treatment of mild-to-moderate coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in adults and pediatric patients (12 years of age and older weighing at least 40 kilograms or about 88 pounds) with positive results of direct SARS-CoV-2 testing, and who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19, including hospitalization or death. Paxlovid is available by prescription only and should be initiated as soon as possible after diagnosis of COVID-19 and within five days of symptom onset.

Paxlovid consists of nirmatrelvir, which inhibits a SARS-CoV-2 protein to stop the virus from replicating, and ritonavir, which slows down nirmatrelvir’s breakdown to help it remain in the body for a longer period at higher concentrations. Paxlovid is administered as three tablets (two tablets of nirmatrelvir and one tablet of ritonavir) taken together orally twice daily for five days, for a total of 30 tablets. Paxlovid is not authorized for use for longer than five consecutive days. (FDA, Dec 2022).

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why does AFC provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

  • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

Depends on which test is done and if we do the test in our clinic or send out LabCorp. In-house Antigen takes 16 minutes; In-house PCR takes 30 minutes. Anything sent out to the lab can take from 3-7 days.

  • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Most insurances cover testing for symptomatic patients. No insurance covers any kind of screening testing for Covid-19. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
