What Are The Symptoms Of Covid-19?

If you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for the virus or are exhibiting any of the symptoms listed below, you should get tested to determine if you contracted the COVID-19 virus.

  • Fever of over 102 F
  • Dry cough
  • Loss of smell or taste
  • Head, muscle, and body soreness and aches
  • Fatigue
  • Congestion

AFC Urgent Care San Diego in San Diego offers Rapid Molecular Testing using the Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 Rapid Test with same-day results. The Abbott ID NOW COVID-19 Rapid Test which is classified as a Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAA) test but may also be listed as a LAMP or NEAR test. We also offer the Coronavirus Rapid Antigen Test IA as an option to our patients.

How The Rapid Test Can Detect Covid-19

The test itself is performed in our on-site laboratory by combining the sample and a specific mix of chemicals in a machine designed to only detect the active COVID-19 virus. The chemicals break down the sample and expose the genetic material of the virus if present, detecting it in the sample. The results are displayed on the device’s screen, printed, and brought to our front desk, where someone will contact you the same day.

What To Bring For The Covid-19 Rapid Test

Masks or face coverings worn over the nose and mouth are required for patients who have symptoms. Masks should only be lowered to collect the swab sample when asked by the medical team. The process only takes a few short moments and is painless, though the patient may exhibit some mild discomfort. The sample is taken to be processed and analyzed at our on-site laboratory where the results are shared with you and your healthcare provider.

What Should I Do When I Get My Test Results?

Should your test come back positive, you will need to self-isolate and prepare to quarantine for at least 10 days and until you are no longer contagious. If you have a negative test result, you should continue to follow local and CDC healthcare guidelines including washing your hands frequently, wearing a mask in public, and practicing social distancing.

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why does AFC Urgent Care provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

  • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.

  • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC Urgent Care’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
