At AFC Urgent Care in Saugus, we offer many different services and treatments for non-emergency medical problems. With COVID-19 happening, we have had to change the way to operate on the day to day to keep you and your family safe. This includes adding coronavirus testing to our list of services. The short answer is yes, you can visit a walk-in for any non-emergency problem during the COVID-19 outbreak. Here is how we can help:
COVID-19 Testing
At AFC Urgent Care in Saugus, we currently offer two types of COVID-19 testing. The first is for an active case of COVID. If you are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive, our rapid COVID-19 test will tell you if the virus is active in your body. This test includes taking a swab in the upper nasal cavity. While this test is not painful, it may be slightly uncomfortable. Once the sample is taken, our lab will process the results in less than 15 minutes.
If you believe you may have had COVID in the past, antibodies can be tested to find out for certain. The antibody test is not meant to determine if you have an active case, so it will only work if you have been symptom-free for at least fourteen days. This test includes taking a sample of blood that is sent to a lab to try and detect the antibodies used to fight off the virus. Depending on how soon after an active case the test is done, antibodies may not have been developed. These results can take about two to three days.
