Do I Have Strep Throat?
Not every sore throat is a result of strep throat, which is a bacterial infection. But strep throat is very contagious and can be transmitted via airborne particles, so it’s important to seek medical care if you think you could have it. When you have strep throat, your sore throat is usually accompanied by other symptoms:

How Do I Know If I Have Strep Throat?
The only way to know for sure is to visit a doctor. If your sore throat doesn’t go away after a day or two or new symptoms begin to appear, it is time to come in to our urgent care center for a throat culture and lab work. If you have strep throat, the doctor will prescribe antibiotics to help rid your body of the infection.
At-home Treatment for Strep Throat
- Try OTC pain relievers and throat lozenges.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Gargle with warm salt water.
- Get plenty of rest.
- Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air.
