How Much Exercise Do I Need for a Healthy Heart?- AFC Urgent Care

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. While some risk factors for heart disease cannot be changed, such as age and family history, there are some things you can do to help lower your risk.

During American Heart Month, our team at AFC Urgent Care Sevierville wants to help you understand how important a role exercise plays in living a heart-healthy life.

How Much Exercise Should I Get Each Day?

The Department of Health and Human Services recommends getting at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity (or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity) a week. A good rule of thumb, though, is 30 minutes a day on most days of the week.

You don’t need to get all 30 minutes at one time—breaking it up into smaller segments can be just as effective for your health.

Good Exercises for the Heart

  • Brisk walking
  • Running
  • Swimming
  • Cycling
  • Playing tennis
  • Jumping rope
