COVID-19 Antibody Testing

BOOK TELEMEDICINE – 8AM to 8PM DAILY

AFC Urgent Care Bridgeport provides COVID-19 Antibody testing to see if their body is currently responding to a COVID-19 infection. Antibody tests can help patients determine if they have a limited immunity to COVID-19, if their body is fighting off infection though there are no symptoms, and if there is a greater-than-expected risk of COVID-19 cases within a community.

Before getting an antibody test for the novel coronavirus, patients must schedule a pre-screening through our telemedicine urgent care portal on any of our testing dates. Please refer to the top of our website to learn more!

How does Antibody Testing Work?

*Use our telemedicine platform to get a pre-screening for antibody testing*

Antibody testing is the process of analyzing a patient’s blood to determine if present antibodies are fighting off an illness regardless of their symptoms. As the CDC explains, an antibody or “serology test" can detect infections in patients that have no symptoms. Asymptomatic patients can be carriers of COVID-19, which means that an antibody test is the most accurate way to determine if they have COVID-19.

Many public health organizations are using antibody tests to determine the full scope of COVID-19 infections among both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. National research efforts rely on antibody tests to find new ways to protect the public against the virus. At the individual level, patients can visit an urgent care center, just like AFC Urgent Care Shelton, to get test results in a day after the visit.

IgG Antibody Testing for COVID-19

Antibody tests at AFC Urgent Care Shelton are administered with partnership from a third-party lab, which analyze IgG antibodies in a patient’s bloodstream. Immunoglobulin G (IgG) are present when a patient has past or recent exposure to the COVID-19 virus. IgG antibody testing for COVID-19 is ideal for patients that fall into the following categories:

  • Have had a positive test for COVID-19 and it has been at least 7 days and you want to know if you have detectable levels of IgG antibodies
  • Have not experienced a fever or felt feverish in the last 3 days
  • Have not experienced new or worsening symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 10 days: loss of smell or taste, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, feeling weak or lethargic, lightheadedness or dizziness, vomiting or diarrhea, slurred speech, and/or seizures

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why does AFC provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

  • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.

  • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
