Tick Bite Treatment

Tick Bite Treatment in Shelton, CT

The months between April and September are the most popular time of year for outdoor activities such as hiking and camping, and they are also the most active months for ticks.  Spending time outside can increase your risk of being bitten by a tick, so it’s important to have the tick removed from your skin as quickly as possible with the help of a medical professional.

At AFC Urgent Care Shelton, we see patients for tick removal and detection of tick-borne illnesses.

Most patients experience symptoms such as the ones below between 3-30 days following the bite:

  • Bull’s Eye Pattern Rash
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Swelling
  • Stiffness
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness

Our urgent care center can evaluate and treat your symptoms on a walk-in basis – no appointment necessary.  Open seven days a week, we offer convenient night and weekend hours to provide you with the care you need when it’s convenient for you.  We also accept most major health insurances as well as provide low-cost care for those without.

Some ways you can reduce your risks for tick bites or tick-borne illnesses include:

  • Avoid wooded and bushy areas with high-grass
  • Walk in the center of trails
  • Wear protective clothing such as pants and long sleeves
  • Conduct a full-body tick check, and shower after outdoor activities

For more information about tick bites or other services we provide at our urgent care center, please call to speak with one of our medical professionals at 203-567-4171.

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why choose AFC for Urgent Care?

With state-of-the-art centers and a professional medical team, AFC provides on-site X-rays, labs, procedures, and more!

  • What's the difference between AFC Urgent Care and emergency room services?

Urgent care is for medical conditions that require prompt attention but do not pose an immediate threat to your health or life. Here is a simple rule of thumb: if your medical issues(s) are life threatening, call 911, or go directly to a hospital emergency room. If not, an urgent care center such as AFC is an excellent alternative.
